Description

A carved wooden angel with long, dark hair holds a pointed shield against its body. The widely spread wings have overlapping small feathers above longer flight feathers. The robe retains traces of muted colour, with red and blue around the neckline. A large red painted shape survives on the shield, surrounded by pale and darker areas, but its original design is not sufficiently clear for a confident identification.

Heraldry

The surviving paint is insufficient to reconstruct a reliable blazon. Irregular areas of red appear over a white or pale background, but it is unclear whether these represent the original heraldic design or later overpainting.

Identification: Unknown.

Condition

Paint loss is extensive on the face, hair, robe and shield, leaving irregular patches of surviving colour and exposed underlying surface. Both wings retain clear feather carving but show cracks, separations and chipped edges, particularly among the lower feathers. Circular holes or possible fixing points are visible in the wings and near the arms. The shield’s worn painted surface makes its original heraldic detail uncertain.
