Description

A carved stone corbel depicting a winged angel holding a broad, tapering musical instrument across the body. Closely spaced horizontal lines cover its front, suggesting strings, and the angel’s hands rest near its upper edges. It may represent a psaltery or a related stringed instrument, although its precise form is uncertain. The angel has curled hair, a flowing robe and wings rising behind the shoulders. Foliage decorates the base.

Condition

The overall figure and instrument remain recognisable, but the facial features and fingers are softened by wear. A thin dark line extends down the face towards the chest, apparently a crack or surface fissure. Small pits, chips and darker marks occur across the carving, and the surface colour is uneven. The horizontal lines on the instrument survive more clearly than its finer construction details.
