Painted and gilded wooden angel with outstretched wings, positioned at the junction of the decorated roof timbers. The angel holds a blue shield bearing a large heart at the centre, with small representations of rectangles representing the nail holes in the crucified Christ’s cross, focusing on their devotional meaning rather than anatomy.
Condition
Restored and renewed in 2025, the figure is clearly legible and appears substantially intact. The painted and gilded surfaces show visible wear and localised losses, particularly on the face, wings, clothing and shield. Despite this surface wear, the principal features of the carving and painted design remain clear.
