Description
Winged angel with outstretched wings, holding a heraldic shield. The frontal figure is set against the south beam of SA1. Surviving painted decoration is muted and worn; the shield retains pale and reddish areas but its original design is difficult to resolve from the photograph.
Heraldry
Provisional blazon: Argent, a cross Gules.
In plain English: A red cross on a white or silver field—the Cross of St George. The field is now discoloured and appears ochre in places, but it was probably originally white.

Condition
The carving appears substantially intact in this view. Surface decoration is extensively abraded and faded, particularly on the face, body, wings and shield.
