Description

A carved figure with dark, curled hair holds a long shield against its body. No wings are visible. The face retains dark eyes and strongly painted eyebrows, with traces of red lips. Its robe is predominantly brown-gold, with a reddish collar. Both hands grasp the lower sides of the shield. The shield displays six alternating horizontal bands, three pale gold and three dark grey-brown, with the lowest dark band occupying the rounded point.

Heraldry

Blazon: Barry of six Argent and Sable.

In plain English, the shield is divided into six alternating horizontal bands of white or silver and black. The arrangement is clearly legible, although the surfaces are worn and discoloured.

Identification: RCHME: Barry of six, argent and sable Clifford; Buckeridge: Or three bars sable.

Condition

Paint loss leaves conspicuous pale patches around the nose, mouth and chin, with smaller losses on the forehead and hair. The shield’s banded design remains clear, although its surface is worn and marked by scattered scratches and paint losses. A vertical crack runs down its centre, with further cracking and chipped paint near the lower point. The hands and sleeves show abrasion and worn edges. Recessed fixings are visible on both arms.
