Description
A carved and painted half-length figure with curling dark hair and an upward-looking face. The figure wears a pale garment with a narrow red neckline and holds a pointed shield before the body. The shield has a dark field crossed by a broad pale diagonal band. Three pale roundels are arranged two and one in the upper right-hand part of the shield as viewed.
Heraldry
Provisional blazon: Sable, a bend Argent; in sinister chief three roundels Argent, two and one.
In plain English: A black shield bearing a broad white or silver diagonal band, with three white or silver discs arranged two above one in the upper left side from the bearer’s viewpoint.
The principal pattern is clearly visible, although abrasion makes the original tinctures somewhat uncertain. No family identification is proposed.
Condition
The figure is substantially complete, including the face, hands and shield. The facial carving remains expressive and retains traces of painted detail. Widespread abrasion, small holes, cracking and local losses affect the garment and shield. The dark field is uneven and the pale bend and roundels are worn, but the heraldic design remains readily legible.
