Description
A carved and painted half-length figure with curling dark hair and an upward-looking face. The figure wears a faded blue-grey garment and holds a pointed shield before the body. The shield has a pale field bearing a broad red chevron. A dark horizontal label with five pendant points extends across the chief.
Heraldry
Provisional blazon: Argent, a chevron Gules; in chief a label of five points Sable.
In plain English: A white or silver shield bearing a broad red chevron, with a black horizontal label of five hanging points across its upper part.
The red chevron is clear. The dark upper charge appears to be a label, although surface wear makes the exact number and shape of its points less secure. No family identification is proposed.
Condition
The figure is substantially complete, including the face, hands and shield. The facial carving and curling hair remain well defined. The surface is extensively abraded, with numerous small holes, scratches and losses. The blue-grey garment is worn and patchy. The shield’s pale field has darkened and lost much of its finish, but the red chevron and the dark label remain recognisable.
