Description
A carved and painted half-length figure set against the roof beam at the north edge of Bay PV1. Seen obliquely from below, the figure has a pale face, dark head covering or hair and a blue-green garment. Both hands grasp the top of a long, pointed shield. No wings are visible in this view.
Heraldry
Blazon: The arms cannot be securely blazoned from the photograph. The shield is predominantly pale, with faint darker traces and a possible diagonal band; the original colours and any other charges are uncertain.
In plain English: The shield once carried painted decoration, but so much is worn or obscured that its design cannot now be read confidently. The diagonal trace may be part of the design, but it should not be treated as certain. No identification is proposed.
Condition
The head, torso, hands and shield remain in place. The figure is photographed at a steep angle because access is restricted, which limits assessment of its shape and surface. The shield has extensive paint loss, dark staining and a conspicuous hole low on its left side. The face and garment retain colour but show abrasion and uneven wear.
