Description
A carved half-length figure on the south edge of Bay PV1, photographed obliquely from below. It has a dark rounded hairstyle or head covering, a red garment and both hands placed around a pointed shield. The figure is set against painted beams with alternating dark and pale bands and small floral motifs. No wings are visible.
Heraldry
Blazon: No reliable full blazon can be recovered from the photograph. The shield is now largely pale, with traces of darker colour that may form a diagonal band, but the original field, tinctures and any further charges are uncertain.
In plain English: There may have been a diagonal stripe across the shield, but its surviving paint is too worn to describe the complete coat of arms with confidence. No identification is proposed.
Condition
The figure and shield appear substantially intact, although the photograph does not show every side of the carving. Much of the surface paint is abraded, especially on the face and shield; a larger loss of pale paint is visible on the figure’s right shoulder in the photograph. A vertical split or joint is visible down the centre of the garment. The shield design is too faint for secure interpretation.
