Description
A carved and painted half-length figure at the north edge of Bay PV2. It has dark wavy hair and a red garment and holds a large pointed shield in both hands. The shield now appears chiefly pale, with an indistinct darker design or carved relief in its centre. No wings are visible.
Heraldry
Blazon: A secure blazon cannot be given. The shield has a pale surviving surface and faint, branching or feather-like forms around a central vertical shape. Their original colours and heraldic meaning cannot be established from the photograph.
In plain English: There is a design on the shield, but its details are too worn to say confidently what it depicts. It should not yet be assigned to a family.
Condition
The figure and shield remain in place. The red garment retains much of its colour, while the face and especially the shield show heavy abrasion, staining and loss of painted detail. The tip and lower edges of the shield are darkened and worn. The remaining marks cannot be distinguished confidently as original painted charges, later wear or exposed carving.
