Description
The only figure visible in Bay PV4 is a carved and painted half-length figure at its north edge, photographed obliquely from below. It has a pale face framed by dark hair or a close-fitting head covering, a red garment, and hands holding a pointed shield. Painted blue, red and black-and-white roof timbers meet behind the figure. The organ obstructs views of the other positions in this bay.
Heraldry
Partial blazon as depicted: Per pale, dexter a pale field bearing a fess Gules, its original field tincture uncertain; sinister apparently Ermine, a chevron Sable. The disposition of the lower ermine marks is partly obscured by the hands and viewing angle.
In plain English: The shield is divided vertically. The left half has a red horizontal band on a pale background. The right half appears to show a black inverted V on a pale ground dotted with black ermine marks. This resembles the arrangement visible on PV3-S, though the photograph alone cannot establish that every detail matches. No family identification is proposed.
Condition
The head, garment, hands and shield remain in place. The face and red garment have widespread surface abrasion and small paint losses. The pale left half of the shield is particularly worn; the black chevron and some ermine-like marks on the right remain clearer. A narrow line down the shield may be a join or crack. The oblique view and partial obstruction limit assessment of its edges and underside.
