Description

A carved stone corbel depicting a winged angel holding a large shield in front of the body. Both hands grip the shield’s upper sides, with the fingers clearly indicated. The angel has curled hair framing the face, upright wings and a flowing robe whose folds appear beside and beneath the shield. The shield has a gently curved upper edge and tapers to a rounded point. No recognisable heraldic design is visible.

Condition

The figure’s outline, hands, wings and drapery remain reasonably clear. The face has pronounced uneven discolouration, particularly on the left side of the photograph, with lighter patches around the mouth and chin. The shield’s surface is worn and mottled, but its marks do not form an identifiable coat of arms. Small chips, pits and surface wear occur across the carving.
