Description
A carved stone corbel depicting a winged angel holding a musical instrument across its body. A broad, elongated section lies across the upper chest, while a rounded component and a projecting shaft extend below it. It is likely to be a tambor, a small drum held in the right hand while the angel beats on it with her left hand holding a drum stick. The angel has flowing hair and wears a long robe, framed by wings and carved foliage at the base.
Condition
The overall figure and the main components of the instrument survive, but their finer details are worn and indistinct. The face shows considerable loss of definition, and small surface losses affect the hands and instrument. The stone has uneven discolouration, darkened recesses and scattered chips and pits. The drapery and foliage remain visible, although some edges are softened. The photograph does not resolve the instrument’s construction sufficiently for a confident identification.
