Description
A carved stone corbel depicting a winged angel playing a harp. The instrument is held upright across the front of the body, with its strings clearly represented and one hand extending across them. The angel wears a long robe with deeply carved folds. Wings frame the figure on either side, and foliage decorates the base. The corbel supports a timber member of the chancel ceiling.
Condition
The carving remains readily recognisable, particularly the harp, the folds of the robe and the wings. The facial features are worn and indistinct. The stone has an uneven colour, with darkened recesses, small chips and areas of surface loss. Some finer details of the hands and foliage are difficult to distinguish in the photograph.
