Description
A carved stone corbel depicting a winged angel holding a stringed instrument diagonally across its chest. The instrument has a rounded, tapering body and a narrow neck; it may represent a small lute or a related instrument. One hand rests across the body while the other supports the neck. The angel has flowing hair and wears a long robe, its folds sweeping around the lower body. Wings frame the figure, and carved foliage decorates the base.
Condition
The figure, instrument and drapery remain recognisable, although some finer details are worn. The face retains traces of its features, with surface loss around the nose and mouth. The stone shows uneven discolouration, pitting and small chips, particularly around the edges and foliage. The instrument’s strings and the positions of the fingers are not clearly resolved in the photograph.
