Description
Winged angel shown frontally, holding a large heater-shaped shield against the body. The angel has curled, shoulder-length hair and wears a dark garment. Traces of red and pale paint remain on the layered feathers of the wings.
Heraldry
The shield retains a pale ochre or gold-coloured surface, but no charge can now be identified with confidence. Its original heraldic design is therefore uninterpretable.
Condition
The carved figure is substantially complete, with the face, hands, wings and shield all surviving. The surface is worn and darkened, while the painted decoration is fragmentary. The shield is particularly abraded and has lost almost all evidence of its original design.
