Description
A frontal winged angel with short curling hair and an open mouth. The figure wears a blue garment with a red and pale collar. Its hands appear at either side of a pointed shield decorated with alternating horizontal bands.
Heraldry
Provisional blazon: Barry of eight Sable and Or.
In plain English: The shield is divided into eight horizontal bands, alternating black and gold. The gold pigment is now subdued and may appear brown or ochre.
Condition
The figure is largely complete, including the head, torso, wings, hands and shield. Considerable painted colour survives on the garment and collar. The wings and shield retain clear carved and painted detail, although their surfaces are worn. Numerous small holes and losses are visible, and a vertical split runs through the centre of the shield.
