Description
A carved and painted frontal half-length figure with short dark hair and a pale, pleated collar. No wings are visible. The figure holds a pointed shield close to the body. Surviving colour includes a blue-green band across the upper part of the garment and a dark chevron on the shield.
Heraldry
Tentative blazon: Argent, a chevron Sable.
In plain English: A black chevron on a white or silver field.
The design is plainly visible, although the original tone of the pale field may have been affected by wear and discolouration. No identification is proposed.
Condition
The head, torso and shield appear substantially intact. Painted decoration survives particularly well on the face, collar, upper garment and chevron, although the surface is worn and abraded throughout. There are small holes or fixing marks near the upper edge of the shield, with further paint loss and discolouration towards its lower point.
