Description
A carved angel with dark, shoulder-length hair and outspread feathered wings holds a long shield against its body. Its robe retains red and pale grey paint, with a greenish collar. Both hands curve around the lower sides of the shield. The pale shield bears two broad dark horizontal bands. The wings have overlapping feathers near the shoulders and longer, pointed feathers extending outwards.
Heraldry

In plain English, a gold shield bearing two horizontal black bands. The surviving design is clear, although extensive wear has reduced the original brightness of both the gold ground and the black bars.
Identification: RCHME: Argent, two bars sable Brereton?; Buckeridge: BRERETON.
Condition
Extensive paint loss exposes the wood grain across the shield and interrupts both dark bands. Several vertical cracks run through the shield, with further splitting in the chest above it. The face retains traces of painted eyes and red lips, but its surface is worn and the nose has a conspicuous pale damaged area. The robe and hands also show substantial wear. Both wings have cracks and chipped feather edges, particularly on the viewer’s left. Circular fixings are visible on the chest, arms, shield and wings.
