Description
A carved and painted half-length figure with a frontal head and dark hair. No wings are visible. The figure wears a dark blue-green garment with a pale collar and holds a pointed shield. The shield has a pale field crossed by a broad dark diagonal band.
Heraldry
Provisional blazon: Argent, a bend Sable.
In plain English: A white or silver shield bearing a broad black diagonal band.
The broad diagonal charge is recognisable, but its edges and surviving colour are heavily worn. The tinctures are therefore provisional, and no identification is proposed.
Condition
The figure is substantially complete, including the head, hands and shield. The carving is heavily abraded and much of the painted surface is thin, darkened or lost. Facial details remain visible, but the garment and shield are less distinct. Numerous small holes, scratches and local surface losses affect both the figure and the adjacent timber. The heraldic design can still be read, although its original colours are uncertain.
